“Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.”
As we journey through Lent with John he raises for us the question “How big is your Lord?”
He has already taught us that Jesus is God. Now he tells us that all things were made through Him. He does not stop there but underlines the statement for us to make sure that we understand what it is that he is saying,
“without him nothing was made that has been made.”
Eugene Petersen in The Message puts it this way,
“Everything was created through him;
nothing–not one thing!-
came into being without him.”
Everything has its origin in Jesus. Nothing came into existence independently of Him. So the world and all that is in it belongs to God. In addition all that we have and use has its origin in Jesus. Take a moment now to look around you and identify all the modern conveniences of life. As they were invented and developed was God amazed at our cleverness or pleased that we had discovered some more of His blessings? What more could there be in store for us down the road of time!
“You are worthy, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honour and power,
for you created all things, and by your will
they were created and have their being.”
Lord help me to prayerfully reflect on Your majesty and power and to begin to have a greater vision of You, our Almighty God. Amen.
