Good Time

2014.05.13

“the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth
and the desires for other things

come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful.”

(Mark 4:19)

Reflection:
Keeping Christ as the centre of our lives requires focus and attention. There are many things that seek to take His place, and it can happen without our being aware of it at first. The routines of daily living, and the pressure of the world’s values, can distract us and affect our priorities.

There is the pressure of time. Modern day life can be so hectic, and sometimes so exciting, that we find ourselves having forgotten God. Prayer can become hurried and Scripture reading merely a quick glimpse if at all.

There is the pressure of the crowd. Whether spoken or unspoken the crowd around us expresses its values and opinions. It can seem easier to just go along with them than to draw attention to ourselves.

There is the pressure of unconfessed sin. Small sins can grow into big ones. We can find that we have learned to live with certain sins and have given up trying to change. They keep us from being whom we could and achieving more of our potential in God.

There is the pressure of stagnation. Having become fenced in by our responses to the world we see no way out. We give up trying and learn to accept our discontent and the vagueness of our relationship with the Lord.

Response:
Check where you are with God – and where He really is in your life.

Prayer:

Lord, please help me to draw closer to You – so that You can draw closer to me. Amen.
