Softly, Spoke the River

The Light of Christ

Practise it!

“you have taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new self,
which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”

(Colossians 3:9-10)

In Christ we are different people. We are no longer people of the darkness, separated from God – we are now people of the Light, sons and daughters of the Living God, brothers and sisters to Jesus Christ Himself. We are called and expected to live accordingly, empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Life. He looks to guide us closer to God, into the meaning and freedom of our true relationship with Him and upwards to our God-given potential and purpose.

However our very first step is to commit our lives, and all the areas of them, to the Lord and to ask – and keep on asking – for His help. This help is not only to ‘prune’ out of our lives the dark areas but to replace them with the qualities and fruit that God would have instead. As we increasingly focus on these new characteristics and look to practice them change will begin to take place.

Move from the darkness into the light, towards becoming your true God-given self, and do not let anything prevent you, not even your own weaknesses. No matter how many times you may fall or fail, press on. If you find it too difficult in some areas then seek the help of others – it’s worth it.

Decide today that you want to grow and mature, for God’s glory.

Lord Jesus, You told Peter and Andrew that you would make them into different people with different lives. Please help me to follow You more closely and, by Your Holy Spirit and with my co-operation, make me into the person You know I can be – for the glory of Your name, Amen.
