My Everlasting God

skye 1

“The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain
in the presence of the LORD,
for the LORD is about to pass by.”

(1 Kings 19:11)

Reflection:
Every mountain is subject to the Lord – the ones that He has established and the ones that are not of Him. When He calls us to the mountain He is there. When He calls us up the mountain He is there. Wherever we find ourselves on or before any mountain He is there.

The first thing that we have to do when confronted by a mountain, any mountain, is to acknowledge the presence and power of the Lord. He does not call us to confront a mountain in our own wisdom and strength but in His. He is both willing and able to help us and to display His love and majesty. We need to involve Him and to seek His guidance and help. In some cases it might take time as He works with and within us.

It does not matter how often we may have tried to overcome a particular mountain and failed – the first thing to do is to turn to Him. It does not matter how often we may still try and fail – the first thing is to turn to Him. It does not matter how guilty or ashamed we might feel – even when we suspect that a part of us may not want to give up the mountain – our priority is always still to turn to Him. We must not let our weakness and sin stand in the way of Lord’s love, forgiveness and strength. Once having given ourselves to Him He will not let us go.

“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.” (John 10:28)

John Campbell Shairp put it this way

“Let me no more my comfort draw
From my frail hold of Thee;
In this alone rejoice with awe,
Thy mighty grasp of me.”

Response:
There is no power that can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Prayer:

Lord I may doubt my love, my strength, my commitment and even my sincerity – please help me never to doubt Yours. Amen
