“This is my body given for you;
do this in remembrance of me.”
The Last Supper is a meal filled with mystery and miracle. We catch glimpses of great love and deep truth, of magnificent sacrifice and terrible betrayal, of eternal purpose and simple provision.
In the first miracle at the wedding at Cana the water of cleansing became the wine of celebration. Now in these pregnant moments the wine of celebration embraces and becomes the cleansing blood of sacrifice.
The word of God without which man cannot live became the Living Word who took flesh and dwelt amongst us. Now that Living Word becomes the Bread of Life in a new and life-giving way. He is given not just for the world but to the world.
The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He is the one true sacrifice and the fulfilment of all the sacrifices made by God’s people through their history. He gives us this sacrificial meal, eternal commitment and awesome celebration as He steps out into the darkness leading to the Cross.
Down through the ages we continue to share these special moments with Him. We bow in awe before the enormity of His sacrifice, look up in wonder at the depth of His love and rise to worship and adore the great and glorious God of our salvation.
We must not look only to the Lord for what we want, but for what He gives to us as well.
Reading words is not enough. We need to ponder and pray them until they absorb and read us.
Lord Jesus please touch my heart, my spirit and my mind with Your great truth and love. Amen.
