“For he chose us in him
before the creation of the world …”
We did not just happen. Whatever some of the modern thinking says, we are neither accidents of nature nor the result of random mass production. Within each one of us is a God-created identity,
“For You created my inmost being.” (Psalm 139:13a)
That identity was known to God before the creation of the world, when we were chosen to be a part of the Body of Jesus Christ – His eternal life.
“He chose us”. Jesus emphasises this point in the story of the Vine – “You did not choose me, but I chose you.”(John 15:16) We talk of ‘accepting Christ’ and of ‘asking Him into our lives’, but the truth is that such things would never have happened if He had not first chosen us, chosen to reach out to us, chosen to reveal Himself to us, and chosen to call us to Himself. The fact that He did so “before the creation of the world” gives great purpose, value and significance to our lives.
No matter what you or others think of you – you have great value to God. He chose you and in Christ died and rose again for you. We can be so grateful that through His grace we have been able to respond.
We need to receive and accept this truth. Soak it in for a moment – throughout the day.
Thank You so much Lord God for loving me and choosing me as Your child. Help me please to know it deep within me, through the revelation of Your Spirit. Amen
