Song of Life

“Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord”
(Psalm 95:1)

Why should we sing for joy?
It’s not just because of the glorious gift of life – and it is a most wonderful privilege to be alive as a unique and talented individual. Yet for many people life can be a frightening and painful struggle.

However for the believer there are additional realities that bring a new light into our lives and living. The one is the understanding that this life is not all that there is. It is the journey to the eternal place that the Lord has prepared for us with the Father. We have the certainty of our coming there in His teaching and promises, in His death, resurrection and ascension.

The second reality is the great promise of the Lord Jesus that He will be with us always. We are not alone, He is with us. That is true now and for every second of the days left for us here. There is nothing that can separate us from Him or from His great love. The danger is that when things prove difficult we focus on the problem and not on the Lord – just like Peter on the water.

Our lives are going somewhere wonderful with the Lord. Our focus needs to be on Him as He leads us forward, and strengthens and helps us through the trials and tribulations that we will meet along the way.

The more that we allow these truths to be at the forefront of our minds the more we will be able to have a proper perspective on this life. We will be able to ‘rejoice in the Lord always’ and not be at the mercy of our circumstances. It will be a faith-based decision which is why the verse starts with the call to ‘Come.’

Keep reminding yourself of your God-given destination and of the intimate presence of the Lord. Learn a song/psalm of praise and ‘sing’ it often through the day,

Lord God I believe and trust in You. You are my salvation and my eternal destiny. You are my life in this world and the next. You are my wonderful Saviour and my God.
