Freed of Sin

2015.10.20

“Our sins are stronger than we are,
but You will blot them out”
(Psalm 65:3 CCP)

Reflection:
Everything that we have thought and said and done, and left undone, is a part of our history. We cannot change or erase anything. Even although no one else may be aware of the detail of our lives we may know and God does know. And our sins have stood between us as an impenetrable barrier. Like a huge stain of shameful darkness they discolour the history of our lives. Lady Macbeth, after the murder of the king, cried in despair,

“All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand”

But God. Suddenly we find God saying something completely different.

“Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)
• “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” (Isaiah 43:25)
• “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)

God is not referring to the human judicial system but to His own judgements. Such is His great love for us that through a radical action He is ready to perform a radical act in our lives which will radically affect our relationship with Him and our relationship with ourselves. He is prepared to take the sin out of our lives.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Response:
If there is anything shameful in your life that still worries you give it specifically to the Lord, asking for His forgiveness and healing. Then spend time accepting His love and life in that area. Believe and trust Him.

Prayer:

Lord God, please pardon my sins and set me free from them, and help me to accept and live in Your love and grace. Amen.
