Following the Lord

gate

“After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth.
“Follow me,” Jesus said to him”

(Luke 5:27)

 Reflection:

Jesus called Levi to ‘Follow Me.’ This is at the heart of our relationship with Him. He will lead us where He wants us to go in all aspects of our life. The only time that the situation is reversed and He follows us is when we have wandered off. Then, as the Good Shepherd, He comes to bring us back again to where we should be.

To follow Jesus is not just to tag along behind Him. It is to become involved in what He is doing and in the way that He is doing it. So for each of us it is not a question of His coming to help us live our lives. On the contrary the focus is on our inviting Him and allowing Him to live His life in and through us. He wishes to express His love, light and life both within us and through us.

To live our lives to His glory is to live them the way He wishes us to, as expressions of Himself. In our work, in our relationships, in our socialising and recreation, in our worship and ministry, in our public and private moments to reflect Him as He reflected the Father. We do not lose our identities in doing so. In truth a new and eternal identity begins to shine through – and a new peace can enter our hearts.

 Response:

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)

 Prayer:

“Not my will Lord, but Yours be done” Please help me to mean it, pray it and want it. Amen.
